Veteran Crustaceans Swampy and Pinhead went wire to wire to dominate the 2024 Hairy Crab Desert Classic. Little Stevie/Bubba and Barney/Pat the Pilot both made their final round charges but succumbed to back nine disasters to round out the money for 2nd and 3rd respectively.
With the victory, the Swampster earned back to back Crab championships matching Keano's 2012-13 feat. In a related note, Pin matched Doddsie's 2019-2023 deed of going DFL to first in consecutive Crabs.
Fish & the Gobbler shot the low alternate shot round of the day to claim the Toilet Bowl. Meanwhile, Janek/Jole overcame Joey/Dato's impressive early lead to claim DFL. In practice round action, the Nice Guys finished first with Gobbler, Has, Pat the Pilot and Dr. Ron taking home GR's pot.
Socially, the week started with an entertaining cocktail party hosted by Gerry the Gerbil and Coco. It was a big week for the Gerbils who played key roles in the production of this year's well received video "A Crab with No Game". Surprise singer/songwriter Doddsie teamed with producer S2 and a cast of Crustacean talent to generate another Crab cinematic winner. The Wednesday auction featured some cool items which along with the betting rake raised a nice pile of cash for Half the Sky.
La Quinta, PGA West and golf coordinator Dave Magdziasz proved great hosts with excellent courses, accommodations and meals. Kudo's to Joey for a huge coordination job there. Thanks to the rest of the committee, S2, Doddsie, Duke, Swampy and fresh blood Billy Elliott and Bubba. Further thanks to Bryan P for refreshements and Has for photos.
A great time was had by all. We look forward to the next Crab.
